Published for the first time as Chopin intended, this is a classic collection of her most innovative stories, including "The Story of an Hour," "An Egyptian Cigarette," and "The Kiss." Chopin (1850-1904) wrote of marital infidelity and miscegenation in places where she lived like New Orleans and St Louis, and sold stories to leading magazines while raising a family after her husband's death. Rediscovered in 1970, this independent woman is praised for her passionate narrative skills and local color. She was strongly influenced by Guy de Maupassant.
